What to NOT SAY When Someone "Comes Out" as Gay? 🎧

Show Notes:

It’s becoming more and more common for someone you know to come out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning. But what should a Christian’s response be? What’s the right language to meet someone with compassion yet hold a standard of truth?

Heavy on truth? Heavy on grace?

While unpacking what this conversation ideally looks like, we discovered some well-meaning Christian responses that may seem like the right thing to say, but ultimately cause more hurt and damage to an individual's healing journey.

Caleb Boggan, Director of Pastoral Care at CHANGED Movement, has gathered these top ten responses as “Failed First Responses” to guide Christians in what to avoid saying, and what to say instead.

Abram Goff

I'm a dreamer, a lover, an idealist, a futurist, a creative, a follower, and a friend. I'm a lot of things we have titles for, but strip it all down to find what's left—who I really am after seasons and years and cities and nations—I'm loved by God and I'm discovering how to live with Him. I'm on a journey that is ambiguous for the nearsighted yet clearly defined in retrospect—becoming fully alive. It's predictably unpredictable to me in the moment but always leads to where I want to be, even before I know where that is. I often share about the process of finding and living the life Jesus has paid for—the abundant life.  Find out more at abramgoff.com
